There’s a certain level of geeky connection that comes from naming a computer or a device. Some people seem to have naming schemes and consistent themes. I generally don’t. So Tumblr, what do you call your machines?

At Vimeo, all the dev machines are named after secondary Top Gun characters. Merlin, Cougar and Hollywood so far.

A little different, but my external hard drives are named Manjushri, Tara, Maitreya, and Lila - if you know what/who they are, then we would most likely be friends.

My iPod is Apollo (as is my best friends’… weird, I thought..), my external is Betty White, and my phone is “ChickMagnet”

i had the idea of naming all of my externals after movie directors that i enjoyed. Each HD is named accordingly to what they primarily contain i.e. Orson for containing the bulk of my film collection as well as begin a 750 biggun. ipod is STINKFISTJR after STINKFIST (it’s predecessor), after a tool song i much admired at the time.
